V.10 Chapter 799: Provocation and Domination

The feast continued with bright splendor, but as the hours passed, the qilin became increasingly irritated. They detested that an asura, a race they loathed, sat beside Celesta, occupying a place of honor.

Their hostile glances and whispers could not go unnoticed. Kai observed the atmosphere in the hall slowly shifting: from celebratory to tense. Moreover, he increasingly overheard conversations suggesting that asuras were sinners who deserved annihilation. Kai knew this tension wouldn’t hold much longer without consequences.

He was right, for suddenly, the man with black hair stood up again, his face lit with a daring smile, and he laughed loudly.

"Ha-ha-ha! My friends, how boring it is to just sit around!" his voice cut through the hall’s buzz, grabbing everyone’s attention. "How about we liven things up a bit? I propose a friendly duel! After all, we are martial artists, not mere drunkards!" his eyes gleamed as he looked at Kai. "What do you say, asura? Will you show us what you’re capable of, or has your race of sinners grown weak over these thousands of years?"

The eyes of many in the hall lit up with interest, and smiles spread across their faces. The qilins were clearly intrigued, eagerly watching the unfolding events. It was obvious they wanted to see the asura put in his place and elevate their own.

The Monarch of Stalwart Qilin watched the situation unfold with a smile, making no effort to intervene, as if this were just the antics of children. Kai understood that the old man didn’t mean to insult him; rather, he wanted to see Kai’s strength for himself. Celesta had spoken of Kai so often lately that the Monarch anticipated this outcome and had permitted Kai to respond to provocations with battle.

Ferno and Askalant’s faces changed, clearly displeased with such a provocation, as Kai was a member of the Order of Heretical Races, and any insult to him affected them as well.

But before they could voice their objections, Kai stood up slowly, signaling them not to interfere. His face remained calm, though his eyes sparkled with the fire of a challenge.

"Why not," he responded coolly, a faint smirk on his lips. "I’m always open to new experiences. I’ve put plenty of fools in their place in my lifetime, but I’ve never faced fools from the qilin race before! Heh-heh."

As soon as these words were spoken, Ferno burst into laughter, showing no respect for their hosts. In contrast, the qilin frowned, clearly unhappy with such an arrogant response from the asura.

"Why so harsh? It’s just a friendly sparring match," the man said with a smile, leaping to the center of the hall, beckoning Kai to follow.

"Of course. I believe you," Kai replied mockingly, also jumping into the middle of the hall. "If you’re going to provoke me, at least be man enough to say it outright. But fine… I’ll play along and won’t cripple you."

Kai’s demeanor and confidence were contagious. Even though the qilins hated asuras, they couldn’t deny that Kai was a true martial artist.
